Northwich will pay a heavy price for the proposed continuation of HS2 Phase 2b Western Leg. The area will experience the realignment of 3 miles of the A556, a strategic part of the highway network between Gadbrook Business Park and the Lostock Gralam triangle.
Disruption during the prolonged construction period of 15 years or more will have a severe effect on the economy of Northwich. The unsuitability of surrounding roads for use as diversion routes for HGVs coupled with the high volume of traffic will cause severe delays for road users and the impact on access routes into Northwich will lead to further loss of visitors to a town which has struggled to redevelop over the past few years. It’s all pain and no gain for Northwich.
